Join The Hyperbolic Crochet Reef Movement

It's summer now.  Water and the beach is on the brain.  Sometimes in a good way while we dream of lazy days at the beach with no worries at all and sometimes in more disconcerting ways like thinking about all those folks in the Gulf of Mexico dealing with oil spills, leaks and top kills.

So here is a chance to use our craftiness to raise your voice about conservation by participating in the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Exhibition and the Smithsonian Community Reef!

"A sea of vibrant colors and fantastic structures, the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef evokes a sense of stewardship of their real-life counterparts through a whimsical and beautiful display. Atolls and clusters of crocheted corals, made of both yarn and found materials, weave their way into unique coral communities. By using particular crocheting techniques that employ cutting-edge hyperbolic geometry, these reefs take shape into complex, natural-looking forms."

Here are some links to instructions for making coral reef pieces.

And Stitch DC will be hosting FREE learn to crochet classes on Wednesday nights all June  from 6:30 to 8:00 pm!  The crochet class is free with the purchase of yarn and crochet hooks.  RSVP to the free classes
