January 2008 Blanket Class Patterns

Capitol Hill started a 2008 Blanket for anyone interested. Both knitters and crocheters were welcome, and the first class was a HUGE success - sitting-on-the-floor-room-only. Each month, Stitch DC will be holding a class to distribute the pattern and teach a new stitch for that month’s 12” square. In December 2008, when we’re all done, we’ll assemble it.


Suggested Materials:
Knit Swatch 100 -200 yds of worsted weight yarn US 10 knitted needle Darning Needle
Crochet Swatch 100 -200 yds of worsted weight yarn I or J Hook Darning Needle


Star Stitch Suggested Gauge: 12 stitches = 2”
Cast on 69 stitches. Knit 3 rows. Start Pattern: Row 1: Knit Row 2: K2, P1, MS: (Purl 3 stitches together, leaving the stiches on the left-hand needle. Wrap the yarn around the needle, then purl the same 3 stitches together again), P1; repeat from last two stitches K2. Row 3: Knit Row 4: K2, P3, MakeStar, P1, MakeStar; repeat from to last 5 stitches, P3, K2 Repeat these 4 rows until desired length (approximately 11 ½ inches ) Knit 3 rows Bind off. Measures 12” square. Make 1 for January’s swatch


Granny Square

Round 1: Chain 8 and join with a slip stitch.

Round 2: Ch 3, DC3 into ring, ch 4, dc 4 into ring repeat from * 2 more times, ch 4, sl st into top ch of original ch 3, turn.

Round 3: ch1, * sc 4 into next ch space, sc 1 into each of the next dc * repeat from * three more times. Slip stitch into first two sc of this round, turn.

Round 4: Ch 3, Dc1 into base of ch3, * dc 1 into each of the next 7 sc, ch 4, dc twice into next sc repeat from * to last stitch ending with a ch 4. Sl St into first two dc and turn.

Round 5: ch1, * sc 4 into next ch space, sc 1 into each of the next dc * repeat from * three more times. Slip stitch into first two sc of this round, turn.

Round 6: Ch 3, Dc1 into base of ch3, * dc 1 into each of the next 12 sc, ch 4, dc twice into next sc repeat from * to last stitch ending with a ch 4. Sl St into first two dc and turn.

Round 7: ch1, * sc 4 into next ch space, sc 1 into each of the next dc * repeat from * three more times. Slip stitch into first two sc of this round, turn.

Round 8: Ch 3, Dc1 into base of ch3, * dc 1 into each of the next 17 sc, ch 4, dc twice into next sc repeat from * to last stitch ending with a ch 4. Sl St into first two dc and turn.

Round 9: ch1, * sc 4 into next ch space, sc 1 into each of the next dc * repeat from * three more times. Slip stitch into first two sc of this round, turn.

Round 10:Ch 3, Dc1 into base of ch3, * dc 1 into each of the next 22 sc, ch 4, dc twice into next sc repeat from * to last stitch ending with a ch 4. Sl St into first two dc and turn.

Round 11:ch1, * sc 4 into next ch space, sc 1 into each of the next dc * repeat from * three more times. Slip stitch into first two sc of this round, turn.

Round 12:Ch 3, Dc1 into base of ch3, * dc 1 into each of the next 27 sc, ch 4, dc twice into next sc repeat from * to last stitch ending with a ch 4. Sl St into first two dc and turn.
