July Blanket Stitch

July 2008 Stitch Patterns
Suggested Materials
Approximately 200 yards of a Worsted Weight Wool (for each square)
US 8 knitting needle
Cable Needle
G Or H Crochet hook
Darning Needle
Measuring Tape

Knit Stitch: Garter Snake
(Pattern is a Multiple of 12 plus 4 stitches)
Row 1 (WS): Knit
Row 2: *P8, k4 repeat from * to last 4 stitches, p4
Row 3 and all wrong sides rows: Knit
Row 4: *P8, k4 repeat from * to last 4 stitches, p4
Row 6: *P8, k4 repeat from * to last 4 stitches, p4
Row 8: *P8, k4 repeat from * to last 4 stitches, p4
Row 10: *P8, k4 repeat from * to last 4 stitches, p4
Row 12: *P4, 8-st RC (HOW TO MAKE CABLE: Sl 4 sts to cn and hold to back, k4, k4 from cn) repeat from * to last 4 stitches, p4
Row 14: *P4, k4, p4 repeat from * to last 4 stitches, p4
Row 16: *P4, k4, p4 repeat from * to last 4 stitches, p4

To make your practice swatch, cast on 28 stitches. Work these 24 rows. Measure swatch to determine final number of stitches to cast on for blanket square.

CROCHET SQUARE: Gilded Fans
(ch a multiple of 8 sts + 5)
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, *ch
3, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next 3 ch, ch 3, skip 2 ch, (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) in next ch; rep from *, end last rep ch 3, skip 2 ch, 1 dc in last 2 ch. Turn.
Row 2 Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 3 dc in sp between 1st and 2nd dc of row below, *ch 3, 1 sc in 2nd sc of 3-sc group, ch 3, skip next ch-3 sp, 7 dc in next ch-3 sp; rep from *, end ch 3, 1 sc in 2nd sc of last 3-sc group, ch 3, skip last ch-3 sp, 4 dc in sp between last dc and t-ch sp. Turn.
Row 3 Ch 1, 1 sc in next 4 dc, *ch 5, skip next 2 ch-3 sps, 1 sc in next 7 dc; rep from *, end ch 5, skip next 2 ch-3 sps, 1 sc in last 3 dc, 1 sc in top of t-ch. Turn.

Rep rows 2–7, end with row 3 or 6.
To make your practice swatch, chain 29 stitches. Work pattern for 4”. Measure the width of the finished swatch. Determine how many stitches to chain (remember multiple of 8 plus 5 stitches) to make your final blanket square.
