More about Stitch DC's Noni Bag Class

Nora Bellows, will be at Stitch DC on October 10 and 11th to conduct 2 six-hour "PICK YOUR BAG" workshops. Noni Workshops emphasize participant-centered, hands-on, experiential learning. The workshops use Noni patterns as a starting point, focus on helping students put their own personal touches on their projects.

As you may know, Noni bags are bags to be worn, not just carried. They are, like jewelry or any adornment, extensions of our personalities. Let your creativity guide you as much as these patterns do toward making your own unique statement. Add interesting combinations of flowers to your bags, go on color adventures, but most of all, enjoy the process.

"Pick the bag you love but are afraid to knit. . . " is how Nora begins this workshop. Participants choose any Noni bag as the project and make it from start to finish. Nora offers all the insider tips and tricks to make every bag look as Noni as the bags in the pictures on the front of the patterns.

Here are some tips/faqs about the classes.

I'm only available for one of the days, do I have to sign up for both days? No, we are offering two workshops. You can sign up for both but you will get a full workshop on either day.

What kind of homework do I need to do before the class? How can I best prepare for the class?
Nora suggests that we start knitting the purses before the class starts. This will allow you to choose one or more purses to work on during the workshops. I plan to work on one big bag and two small purses.

How do I prepare?
Stitch DC is hosting Knitalong classes (free with the purchase of yarn -- remember 10 percent off your materials with the purchase of the workshop) for any of the Noni Patterns on Saturdays in September from 1-3 pm and all of the Stitch DC staff are here to help you prepare for the class. Saturday KAL classes are from 1-3 pm.

I can't attend the KAL, how do I prepare?
Join us for our Wednesday late nights. Join us for Independent Study (I will waive the indie study fee with the purchase of the Noni workshop but request that you register for the indie study).

What patterns can I choose from?
You can choose from any of the Noni Patterns. I have ordered most of Nora's catalog but can get any and all of them for you. We have lots of felting yarns in stock from Cascase 220, O wool, BLue Sky alpaca, and Classic Elite. And you get 10% off all the materials with the purchase of the workshop

What yarns are best for the embellishments?
I've ordered Tilli Tomas beaded merino in a variety of colors for the flowers and other embellishments.

Will Stitch DC have the handles and stuff for finishing?
YES, yes, yes, Nora will be bringing many of the handles but we will have samples in the store prior to the class.

What does the class cost?
One class (6 hour either day) is $95. Both classes (12 hours of instruction) is $150.

Will there be a discount for materials?
Yes, you receive 10 % off all materials bought at Stitch DC for the workshop. Just show or tell the cashier that you are attendign the class so you can shop thru out the month.

How do I reserve my spot
Call the store during store hours at 202.544.8900 or email marie at marie@marieconnolly.com. Prepayment and preregistration is required for the class. We are limited the number of spaces so we can have the best class for everyone!

I hope this helps answer a bunch of the questions for this workshop. Just email me if you other specific questions
